Vice President for Human Resources
George Mason University
George Mason University (Mason) invites applications, expressions of interest, and nominations for the role of Vice President for Human Resources (VPHR).
Mason is an innovative, entrepreneurial institution with national distinction in academics and research. Mason is currently the largest and most diverse university in Virginia, with students and faculty from all 50 states and more than 135 countries studying in over 200-degree programs at campuses in Arlington, Fairfax, and Prince William, as well as at learning locations across the commonwealth and internationally, including Mason Korea. Rooted in Mason's diversity is a campus culture that is rewarding, exciting, and tied to meaningful work and opportunities to collaborate and create as a community.
Located near Washington D.C., one of the most important political, economic, and intellectual hubs in the world, the university accepts its responsibility to serve others: to help students succeed, to enrich the life of the community, and to contribute to solving some of the most complex global problems of our time. George Mason University has 10 schools and colleges devoted to various areas of study and was the first university in the country to offer doctoral programs in conflict resolution, information technology, bioinformatics, and computational social science.
Reporting to the Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration, the VPHR will provide vital and transparent services, support, structure, and connectedness to the university community. The Vice President serves as part of the George Mason University Executive Leadership Team and is accountable for the planning, development and implementation of university-wide initiatives and strategies that support employee engagement, success, and customer service excellence. This position holds executive responsibility for the design, development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of comprehensive Human Resources programs for the University. The VPHR will bring a deep understanding of the current national conversation about higher education. In addition, they will have impeccable integrity and the ability to think creatively, analytically, and strategically. The VPHR will be an effective and collaborative administrative leader with exceptional communication and active listening skills, a high EQ, an open and inclusive leadership style, and the ability to listen to, support, and connect a campus. The VPHR will also be customer-oriented, bringing a visionary and highly collaborative approach to change and innovation on campus. They will help modernize the human resources function at the University, and they will support and empower a skilled and dedicated human resources team at Mason. Grounded in the belief that diversity challenges assumptions, opens minds, and unlocks the collective potential to solve any problem, the VPHR will share the University's mission to continually foster and support its diverse and inclusive community.
Extensive experience in the field of Human Resources, preferably within higher education, is required; an advanced degree or certification in the field is strongly preferred.
