The ULAR Operations Manager (OM) provides oversight of the daily operations and coverage of animal care to maintain a high standard of quality in animal care and will report directly to the ULAR Director.
The OM will be responsible for overseeing that routine equipment repairs and preventative maintenance activities are managed accordingly. The OM will also oversee the ULAR animal care staff's employee performance and takes appropriate corrective measures to resolve deficiencies. The OM supervises the daily activities of the Technical Team Lead staff responsible for animal care support including, ensuring the animal care teams have available personnel resources and appropriate staffing levels; Manages their performance, work assignments and professional development; Works closely with Team Leaders to identify opportunities and efficiencies related to scheduling, staffing, procedures, and operations; works directly with staff to resolve conflict and/or concerns, including the director and other appropriate parties as needed.
The OM serves as the liaison between ULAR Team Leaders, Veterinary staff, ULAR Administration, Research staff, and other support staff. Helps to ensure that ULAR animal husbandry facilities are in inspection-ready status by being knowledgeable about regulations and guidelines applicable to the animal care and use program. Promotes an environment that values and respects employees and resolves conflict professionally. Reviews and implements standard operating procedures and policies drafted by team leaders for implementation and improvement in processes within the unit. Must be familiar with ULAR operational needs: ordering, census, and transfers; pre-approves orders for purchasing for assigned areas and approves the orders within the purchasing system. The position requires the successful completion of a background check and a post-employment physical.
Required Qualifications:
BA/BS degree. Minimum of 3 years' experience or an equivalent combination of related education and work experience. Direct managerial experience of employees in an animal research environment at minimum of 3 years duration. Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) or Certified Manager of Animal Resources (CMAR) certification. Excellent communication skills and experience working with diverse staff, laboratory researchers and research models.
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum of 4-8 years of relevant experience in animal care. More than 4 years of managerial experience of employees in an animal research or care environment.
