The department of Otolaryngology at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics is seeking a Support Services Specialist. This person will contribute to providing and supporting balance disorder services. Perform balance testing, clinical care coordination, clinical education of health professionals, and patient care to assure the effective and efficient delivery of health care and health education. Exercise technical expertise in balance disorders and available tests (e.g., ENG, rotary chair, caloric). Conduct pre appointment patient screening and coordinate patient appointments. Provide education to staff, students and residents in the health professions. May provide guidance, assignments, evaluative feedback, coaching and counseling to staff, residents and students to assure outcomes are achieved.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Provide Specialty Clinical/Technical Service/Patient Care:
Provide a specialized level of clinical/technical service for balance disorder testing, care coordination, and health professions education. Provide services for patients such as interpretation, support in obtaining care, navigating the delivery system, or addressing care/service issues. May supervise the delivery of services such as health information, clinic scheduling and operations, etc. Perform tasks/inspections to meet compliance goals and patient/customer satisfaction expectations.
Maintain and update equipment and supplies.
Provide Education:
Provide health education to patients, residents and students. Communicate detailed medical information to a variety of audiences. Collaborate/Communicate with Health Care Team:
Collaborate with peers and co-workers to enhance the delivery of health care. Provide feedback to management on means to achieve goals and resolve service issues.
Compliance with Internal Policies and External Regulations for Safe and Effective Care Delivery and Health Profession Education:
Follow/apply policies/documentation requirements. Participate in Quality Assurance. Report variances and work to address them.
Human Resources Management:
Provide direction, assignments, feedback, coaching, and counseling to assure outcomes are achieved.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Administrative supervision is received from the department administrator and functional supervision is received from the director of audiology.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Functional supervision may be exercised over support staff and students.
