SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Vice President - Health & Safety, the Senior Director, Health Safety & Training is a responsible for strategizing and executing the health, safety, and wellbeing culture for our employees and our contractors. This role manages complex health and safety issues across our business in a multitude of field and office locations. You will champion and promote a strong health and safety culture implementing programs to ensure employee and wellbeing and company regulatory compliance Partners with leadership in Technical Training to develop best in class training department across the business.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES/STRATEGIC FUNCTIONS:

  • Partners with and works collaboratively with the business, internal and stakeholders, contractors, and vendors to develop health, safety, and technical training strategies, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures designed to achieve the highest performance levels.
  • Drives a learning and improving culture based on human and organizational performance principles.
  • Direct, manage, motivate, inspire, and develop a team with across a diverse area of responsibility across all US operating companies effectively meet business plan and strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure robust leading indicators that focus on EHS risk reduction, compliance, and strong EHS results.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing the company's policies, procedures, and governance/auditing programs to ensure compliance.
  • Build and develop a high-performing team while encouraging open employee communication and talent development.
  • Provide guidance, recommended mitigative and proactive approaches for the health and safety of our employees to executive and senior management.
  • Present and influence at all levels in the organizations from Avangrid Management Committee and Business Management Meetings to Global Meetings.
  • Ensure organizational compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and compliance practices, including but not limited to Occupational Safety & Health Association (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Transportation (DOT), Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Wind Operations EHS Manual.
  • Provide EHS due diligence support and guidance for the company's transitional matters, including mergers and acquisitions.
  • Responsible in storm response and in crisis management team.
  • Benchmark functional and business performance to industry peers to increase health, safety, and wellbeing of our employees and our contractors.
  • Directs the activities of the technical training team and responsible for executing progression, Federal and State required programs and other priorities in accordance with CBAs and business needs.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in safety, engineering, industrial hygiene, or related field.
  • Masters preferred.
  • 10 years related experience including leading large teams and projects.
  • Detailed knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and EPA regulations.
  • Leadership experience in matrixed organizations.
  • Experience in obtaining and maintaining OSHA Safety and ISO certification programs.
  • Professional Safety and/or Health Certifications such as CSP, CHMM, CIH, preferred.

  • Ability to interpret health and safety laws and regulations and to design strategies to effectively comply.
  • Ability to interact well with all other parts of the business and at all levels, including AGR Senior Management.
  • Ability to coordinate, focus and direct employees in analyzing complex problems, formulating the optimum solutions from various alternatives, and implementing courses of action.
  • Ability to devise solutions to complex problems/challenges and utilize full information and knowledge to deliver effective and timely solutions.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Proven skills succeeding in a matrix-management environment.
  • Strong negotiator/facilitator and consensus builder.
  • Global perspective multi-cultural understanding and approach.
  • Flexibility during times of extreme change and challenge without constant re-assurance.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a dynamic, high-pressure environment.
