raising the band to minimum $48,386; target max $56,925.

Purpose

The Afghan School Liaison will work with the Mount Diablo Unified School District to provide interventions including basic needs support to ORR-eligible youth and families, fostering family engagement and empowerment, supporting youth engagement and development, supporting school enrollment, and supporting capacity-building through participation in communities of practice. This is a two-year limited School Impact Grant position, ending in July 2026, with continued employment contingent on future funding.

Responsibilities

  • Provide case management for Afghan ORR-eligible youth and families in Contra Costa schools.
  • Collaborate with the Mount Diablo Unified School District and schools in Contra Costa County where Afghan ORR-eligible youth are enrolled or planning to enroll.
  • Assistwith schoolorientation, registration, resources,and activitiesfornewAfghan ORR-eligible arrivals.
  • Maintain case files related to School Impact Grant clients including School Liaison activities.
  • Coordinate and facilitate Family/School Orientations.
  • Work closely with school Newcomer staff to provide support to meet basic needs of clients and their families.
  • Ensure family understanding of school attendance requirements for students. Make home visits as needed.
  • MonitorSchool Impact Grant client school progress.
  • Plan school and communityeventsthat strengthen theSchool Impact Grant program.
  • Facilitate increased School Impact Grant involvementin school events and Parent/Teacher conferences (Back to School events, ELAC meetings, parent-teacher conferences, Open House, site specific activities).
  • AssistSchool Impact Grant client'sparticipation insummerand afterschool programing.
  • Provide universitypreparation assistanceforHighSchool clients.
  • Attend staff, School Impact Grant, CWS and other training sessions.
  • Support School Impact Grant families with document translations (transcripts.)
  • Connect School Impact Grant families with community resources.
  • Maintain ongoing, effective communication with caregivers, schools, and the community; develop and support family outreach programs.
  • Maintain confidentiality standards.
  • Ensure compliance with case file management and reporting requirements, including timely data entry in hard-copy files and databases.
  • Travel regularly throughout the service delivery area (home visits, agency visits, service provider visits etc.).
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
  • Associate's degree or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in case management and working with school grants
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license
  • Access to a reliable vehicle
Skills:
  • Language fluency in written and spoken English in addition to Pashto, Dari or Farsi is required.
  • Must have superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with socio-economic strengths and challenges in the community.
  • Knowledge of relevant public and private community agencies and informational resources available to students and family.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative and collaborative working relationships with families, teachers, educational and community agencies and the public in general.
  • Ability to work independently with little direction.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings and to coordinate training and in-service sessions.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency in MS Office.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment required.

  • Close attention to detail is essential.
  • Bilingual or multilingual staff will be required to translate as needed and available.
  • Ability to exercise patience, diplomacy, good judgment and tact.

Special Requirements

  • The successful candidate must be computer literate, with proficiency in MS Office and internet applications.
  • A valid driver's license is also required, along with the ability to move furniture and donations. The candidate will be expected to transport clients in their own vehicle (mileage will be reimbursed) and must have a reliable working car for this purpose.
  • The successful candidate must pass a background check.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. of weight. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends.
  • This position is primarily in the office and community.
  • During busy times other duties may be assigned.
