Position Overview:

The Rotating Equipment Engineer provides technical support for operators and crafts, and technical assurance for rotating equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation and maintenance for Production. This role will troubleshoot operational rotating equipment in support of the Maintenance Execution Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) work process and will identify, develop, and apply best practices in machinery design, maintenance and operation.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to Production areas on mechanical upgrades, potential threats to production, or improvements for rotating equipment.
  • Participate in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and rework reports concerning rotating equipment.
  • Verification that designs, field installations, and repairs meet engineering standards or approve deviations.
  • Participate in RCM analysis and establish alarms and limits for equipment through Ensure Safe Production (ESP) work process.
  • Assist in scope preparation for Turnaround repairs and overhauls for rotating equipment.
  • Develop and maintain "Bad Actor" list for respective area, identifying the highest maintenance or production impact equipment, identify and implement corrective actions needed to enhance the reliability for pumps.
  • Participate in or facilitate Management of Change (MOC) reviews to ensure safe operation and design of equipment and related changes, apply engineering technology to improve safety and environmental related issues.
  • Provide rotating equipment technical assurance support to Process Engineering, Project Engineering, and other technical groups, in the development and implementation of projects.
  • Coordinate field performance tests on rotating equipment as requested/required in the course of resolving operational or efficiency problems.
  • Develop or review operating procedures for plant rotating equipment as needed.
  • Provide expertise to the Complex on lubrication and monitor the effectiveness of the lube oil analysis and lubrication recommendations program.
  • Develop or assist in development of Opportunity Proposals for Capital Projects on rotating equipment, lead small (<$500k) projects for rotating equipment.

Experience and Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience working as a Mechanical Engineer in the refining or petrochemicals industry with 2+ years of experience working in Rotating Equipment
  • Ability to travel when required
  • Ability to work both independently and across functions

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Knowledge of engineering standards and best practices
  • Attends seminars and conferences to stay abreast of the latest technologies in the rotating field

Physical Requirements:
  • Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing of stairs and ladders
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, heeled boots, and hearing protection)
