Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, founded in 1975, is one of 47 National Cancer Institute (NCI)- designated comprehensive cancer centers in the country. The Center's mission is to reduce cancer occurrence and death in North Carolina and the nation through research, treatment, training and outreach.
Laboratory conducts translational and biomedical research. Research will involve the study of cancer. The overall goal of this research is to determine, validate and translate therapeutic targets for cancer. To accomplish these goals, the laboratory requires exceptional organizational and high-level computer skills in addition to a demonstrated ability to new advanced skills.

Position Summary:

The purpose of this Research Technician position is to provide support for a molecular biology, informatics and translational laboratory. This will require exceptional organization and communication skills and attention to detail due to the sensitive nature of the work. This position will require organization and maintenance of databases and inventories of high complexity as well as web design and maintenance. In addition, this position will involve conducting molecular biology experiments with precision according to protocols including but not limited to nucleic acid isolation, bacteria work, next-generation sequencing with limited supervision.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Previous knowledge of molecular biology, including but not limited to PCR, tissue culture of primary cells, transfection, DNA, RNA and protein in mammalian, bacteria or analogous organism work. Must demonstrate exceptional organizational and communication skills and the development of independent skills.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

* Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with multiple groups of people.
* Preferred advanced computer software experience and programming skills including but not limited to Adobe Photoshop, MatLab and Linux.
* Previous small animal work experience
