GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Ragon Institute is a highly unique, innovative, and collaborative research center at the forefront of biomedical science. Founded by Massachusetts General Hospital, MIT, and Harvard, the Ragon vision is a bold one: to harness the power of the immune system to prevent and cure human disease on a global scale. This vision is pursued and advanced every day by a group of highly motivated individuals. The Ragon Institute, at every level, depends upon collaboration, compassion, dedication, and innovation. It is a results-oriented organization that seeks people who not only embrace these values but who thrive in teams and want to work in a dynamic environment.

A position is open for a full-time Lab Manager at the Ragon Institute of MGH, Harvard, and MIT in the laboratory lead by Dr. Galit Alter. The Alter Lab is focused on developing novel systems biology approaches to chart the protective immunological mechanisms that control health and disease. The lab previously developed Systems Serology, a unique tool focused on defining the diverse mechanism(s) by which polyclonal humoral immune responses leverage the innate immune response to combat anti-microbial disease. The laboratory now seeks to continue to innovate and extend these technologies to new pathogens and models of health/disease to begin to map both the antigen specificity and immunological mechanisms associated with disease control deep within tissues. The goal of the team is to shift the paradigm and drive new strategies for the development of next generation vaccines or therapeutics to save lives. The disease areas of interest include infectious diseases including Tuberculosis, malaria, respiratory viruses and AMR pathogens, HIV, etc., across the ages (from pregnancy, to neonates, to older populations). We are looking for enthusiastic individuals that are curious about the human immune system and want to participate in the exciting world of diving deeply into understanding how vaccines and monoclonal antibodies can be leveraged to fight a broader array of diseases.

To do this exciting work, we seek an experienced and highly organized individual that would like to join our multi-disciplinary research team and manage the lab. The Lab Manager will be a key leader in the lab, guiding the team in best practices and laboratory behaviors, overseeing standard operating protocol development, interfacing with other technical leaders across the institute, establishing approaches to integrate new trainees into the lab, working with leadership to establish procedures, and fostering a collegial and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities include training new recruits, managing laboratory reagents, working with students and post-doctoral fellows to ensure a fair distribution of responsibilities, and partnering with the Principal Investigator to prioritize lab training and safety. The Lab Manager will also play an essential role in mentoring the next generation of scientists, emphasizing the importance of high-quality data generation, and contributing to the lab's goal of developing innovative technologies and advancing immunological discoveries for disease treatment.

The ideal candidates will have strong organizational skills, a passion for training and mentoring, seek to drive efficiency and innovation, and a desire to be part of a team dedicated to groundbreaking work in immunology. The lab manager will report directly to the leadership team to ensure that scientific strategy is maintained. In this managerial role, we hope to teach and train the candidate to lead large scientific investigative efforts, to evolve an environment where scientists can thrive, create, and innovate. The lab manager will create this foundational, inspiring environment, catalyzing exciting discovery. If you're eager to join a dynamic team and make a meaningful impact in the pursuit of cures for human disease, we encourage you to apply!
