The Quality Control Manager will be focused on our brand new state of the art Foundry to provide strategic and tactical leadership in driving process improvements. The successful candidate will apply a solid understanding of Quality principles and professional practices to contribute to the ongoing development of Mueller's Quality Management System.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of world class quality policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Implement and execute all Process Engineering initiatives and Quality Systems at the Decatur Foundry as they relate to scrap and rework reduction, and in maintaining and meeting quality procedures and standards.
  • Assist the total process improvement and quality effort of the operation using team concepts.
  • Responsible for the development of a "top-down" vision of the concepts and benefits of a proactive quality program.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the Quality process is integrated into all new product introductions and revisions and aligns with the International ISO Quality Standard.
  • Assure compliance to company and industry standards for manufacturing procedures and processes.
  • Drive cultural change focused on Quality at the Source - "building quality in" vs. an inspection-oriented approach.
  • Provide strong developmental and mentoring support for quality staff and others as appropriate.
  • Initiate the use of world class quality tools, systems and procedures within the Quality Assurance organization to support the overall operational goals and align with the ISO Quality Standard.
  • Establish and direct an overall vision and direction for the daily operations of the quality function, including quality and process engineers, auditors, analysts, the metrology lab.
  • Develop and implement cost savings initiatives related to scrap and rework reduction, process improvements (variation reduction) and customer issues.
  • Assess and implement appropriate data analysis, quality systems, and inspection criteria and procedures to ensure the high technical integrity of our quality processes and results.
  • Review and analyze product and material specifications to determine appropriate standards and to establish quality and reliability expectancy of finished products.
  • Interact with the supply chain group and vendors as required to ensure the quality of all purchased parts and materials.
  • Responsible for the identification, development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures that support total customer satisfaction, both internally and externally

Required Experience and/or Education:
  • Knowledge and functional experience in an ISO Quality Management Systems environment.
  • Outstanding statistical data analysis knowledge and skills.
  • Strong leadership, communications, and interpersonal skills with ability to interact with all levels of employees, customers, and outside professionals.
  • Strong knowledge and demonstrated successful application of proactive process improvement and quality tools including APQP, FMEA, DOE, capabilities analysis, and statistical methods.
  • Strong PC/System knowledge and skills.
  • TQM and SPC knowledge and background
  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline or sufficient experience in the Quality field including supervision.
  • 5+ years of Quality experience
