The Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa is seeking a Program Coordinator that would be responsible for development, support, and growth for the collection and analysis of patient information related to the biology of cancer and the development of treatment recommendations based upon clinical characteristics and molecular data, with the purpose to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment plan. This role is also responsible for the coordination and development of a molecular tumor board and precision oncology database that collects research at UI Health Care and across the state of Iowa.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement of both on-campus (UIHC) and remote work within the state of Iowa upon completion of a training period, with the majority of work taking place on the U of I/UIHC campus. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.

Duties to include:

1) Administratively support and ensure adherence and best practice standards for all Iowa Molecular Tumor Board Program (IOWA MTB) activities as set forth by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Office of Human Research Patient Protections (HRPP), University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics (UIHC), University of Iowa, National Cancer Institute, and all other applicable regulatory agencies.

2) Coordinate and administratively support all activities of the IOWA MTB to achieve program goals, specifically building relationships across the organization and managing/coordinating IOWA MTB activities between members, clinicians, patients, internal collaborators, and external referral network.

3) Develop, coordinate, and manage regulatory requirements with the University's Health Sciences Institutional Review Board, University Hospital, and any other regulatory review boards. Monitor compliance with Federal, State and University regulations regarding research.

4) Design and develop all IOWA MTB Standard Operating Procedures and oversee revisions and annual re- approval

5) Administratively manage, coordinate, and oversee the operational functions of the IOWA MTB protocol. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Supporting all research activities including patient teaching, obtaining informed consent, determining eligibility, and coordinating the submission of materials for genomic testing and other research correlatives.
    • Administratively manage, organize, and coordinate the IOWA MTB meeting agenda; collect, organize and ensure clinical and molecular data is available for presentation and document treatment discussions and recommendations.
    • Attend bi-monthly tumor boards, documenting tumor board attendance, discussions, and decisions through tumor board note in electronic medical record.
    • Administratively support IOWA MTB Chair treatment recommendations: facilitate, develop and finalize documents and ensure distribution of recommendations to treating clinicians and inclusion into electronic medical record.
    • Manage and coordinate the process for data collections, including building a redcap or database deemed appropriate for the project, and ensure quality assurance for the completeness and accuracy of data from medical record; oversee the submission of molecular and clinical data including all regulatory submissions into UIHC research database, and ensure an understanding of all database definitions and data entry requirements; secure patient data and source documentation for audits
    • Assist in the coordination, preparation, and documentation of patients eligible for clinical trials; ensure excellent dissemination of information with clinical research coordinators.
6) Collaborate with colleagues, IOWA MTB Chairs, HCCC Directors, UIHC Directors, clinicians and internal collaborators to promote team effectiveness and achieve established objectives.

7) Direct the creation and design of reporting tools and tracking systems for all IOWA MTB activities.

8) Develop and manage all details involved in the development of IOWA MTB reports and publications as determined by the IOWA MTB Chairs

9) Other duties as assigned by the HCCC Director and IOWA MTB Chairs.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Reports to the Administrative Director, Clinical Research. Collaborates closely with the Tumor Board Manager, and Coordinators.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Administrative and functional supervision may include additional coordinators and data managers as the program builds internally and regionally.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, Hours generally worked between 7:30am-5pm

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in a healthcare related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • 1-3 years administrative function and/or program experience
  • 1-3 years of experience in clinical, clinical research, including genomics experience
  • Knowledge of standard protocol design
  • Experience with development of databases, including RedCap or appropriate database tools for collection of information.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of medical terminology
  • Proficient in computer software applications
  • Ability to manage complex information with attention to detail and a high level of accuracy

  • DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Previous and/or current professional working experience in a academic medical center, a clinical healthcare or clinical research clinic is preferred.
  • Knowledge of University of Iowa policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Oncology clinical, clinical, research experience
  • TNM cancer staging knowledge.
