This is what you will do:

The Process Development AAV Plasmid Group at Alexion is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Summer Intern to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in molecular biology and microbiology. The role will involve participating in process development efforts, executing manufacturing protocols, and ensuring the quality and efficiency of plasmid manufacturing processes. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the development and optimization of processes for Adeno-Associated Virus (AAV) plasmids, reagents essential for the production of AAV vectors to be used for Rare Disease Gene Therapy Research.

You will be responsible for:

• Assist in Process Development: Support the development and optimization of plasmid production processes, including upstream and downstream operations.

• Conduct Experiments: Perform laboratory experiments under the guidance of experienced scientists, including plasmid purification, characterization, and quality control.

• Data Analysis: Analyze experimental data and contribute to the interpretation of results. Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings.

• Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records.

• Collaborate: Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including Research & Development, Quality Control, and Manufacturing.

• Safety: Adhere to safety protocols and contribute to a safe working environment.

You will need to have:

• Eligibility: Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, currently enrolled full time in school at the time of application and be returning to school full time at the end of contract. Must be eligible to work in the US, and able to work onsite.

• Education: Preferably enrolled in Bachelor, Master or Doctoral degree program in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related field.

• Laboratory Skills: Basic laboratory skills and familiarity with molecular biology techniques such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, and plasmid purification.

• Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Team Player: Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

• Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

• The duties of this role are generally conducted in an lab environment. As is typical of a lab-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation to lift 15 pounds unassisted; work comfortably in a controlled environment with and around biological, infectious, and hazardous materials; gown/degown PPE; use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; engage in problem solving and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; maintain general availability during standard business hours.

We would prefer for you to have:

• Experience with AAV or other viral vectors.

• Knowledge of bioprocessing techniques.

• Familiarity with statistical software and data analysis tools.
