Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is seeking both a skilled Welder Fabricator to join our Pullman, WA based Machining and Fabrication team. Welder Fabricators of all experience levels are encouraged to apply. Experience level will determine job title.
In this position, you will be responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC and manually operated fabrication equipment to produce and inspect a wide variety of sheet metal and other custom components. Welding is an essential part of this role so we are specifically looking for experienced welders that are proficient with MIG and TIG welding processes. Our ideal candidate has a solid understanding of welding theory and a basic understanding of welding metallurgy and nondestructive testing processes. Experience with aluminum, stainless steel, carbon steel, and titanium is preferred. In addition to technical skills set, we are looking for someone who models SEL values as outlined in our Principles of Operation. The ideal candidate will be an excellent problem solver, self-driven to improve in their craft, and willing to learn and teach a broad range of welding and fabrication skills and technologies. Day and swing shift positions are available.
As a Welder Fabricator, a typical day might include the following:
- Using manual and CNC machining or fabrication equipment to produce parts of moderate complexity under limited supervision.
- Performing preventive maintenance on shop equipment.
- Creating basic to moderate CNC programs with a CAD/CAM system.
- Providing design feedback and training to engineering and other staff on basic to moderate design projects.
- Adhering to all shop safety procedures.
This job might be for you if:
- You have two years of trade school or equivalent experience
- You have four years of welder fabricator experience
- You can read and interpret moderate to complex blueprints
- Welder Fabricator: You are versed in welding theory and industry standards
- You can create basic CAD/CAM programs

Pay Range Data: New hires general start between $20.77 - $38.37 per hour. We base our starting pay offer on location and job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills. Our ranges are determined by job, responsibility, and location.
