IU Early Childhood Education Services provides year-round, high-quality care and education at nationally accredited centers for children ages birth through 5 years. Our commitment to high-quality is demonstrated by providing child-centered, active learning environments based on research supported best practices, through degreed teachers, strong campus support, and adherence to the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). In addition to the service component, the IUB ECES Centers meet the academic mission of Indiana University by providing sites for student training and by serving as research sites for faculty and students. Finally, the early childhood centers at IUB serve as model high quality, early education programs for the Bloomington community and the state of Indiana.
Job Summary
Our relationship-based philosophy is focused on a team approach with the goal of providing excellent care for children. In each of our 4 classrooms, a fast-paced environment, designed for the success of the children, is facilitated by all. Teacher's Aides' work very closely with a team of Lead Teachers and receive coaching/mentoring on a consistent basis.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Serves as a strong supportive role on a team.
- Observes and supervises children and their activities.
- Ensures the general safety and well-being of all children.
- Communicates openly and respectfully with children, parents, and staff.
- Helps support children as they work to develop physical and communication skills.
- Always maintains work area - all staff members share in the housekeeping and cleaning duties.
QualificationsEDUCATION
Required- High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
Preferred- Coursework in child development
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required- Experience working with infants and toddlers
SKILLS
Required
- Ability to effectively communicate and exchange information
- Dependable and punctual
- Relates well to young children and sensitive to children's needs
Working Conditions / DemandsThis role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. This role frequently requires the ability to handle equipment. This role frequently requires the ability to remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 40 pounds. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary$12.00 per hour.
Work HoursThis position is kept at 29 hours per week.
Shift hours:
12:00 PM-3:00 PM
12:00 PM-5:30 PM
