Description

The Humanities Collegiate Division and the Department of Germanic Studies at the University of Chicago invites applications for part-time Lecturers during the 2024-25 academic year.

The selected candidate will have part-time teaching opportunities in various courses in the Germanic Studies Department. Responsibilities includepreparing and teaching courses at various levels of the German Language Program (elementary, intermediate, and/or advanced), holding regularly scheduled office hours, and the preparing and grading of assignments and testing materials. The candidate may be assigned an undergraduate course outside of the Language Program, depending on Departmental needs. Lecturers are also expected to work effectively with peers, coordinators, and to respond to student needs. Depending on the curricular needs of the department, the successful candidate may teach between one and four courses per academic year.

The terms and conditions of employment for this position are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the University and Service Employees International Union. The per-course salary for academic year 2024-25 will be at least $7,538. This position is not benefits eligible.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Master's degree or equivalent in German or a related field, superior proficiency in German according to the ACTFL guidelines, and at least one year of experience teaching German at the college or post-secondary level. Preference will be given to applicants with a Ph.D. or equivalent in German and/or an advanced degree in second language pedagogy/acquisition.

Applicants should have experience carrying out all aspects of classroom instruction, including the development or revision of course syllabi, assignments, and exams.
