The Facilities Services Department at Indiana University Northwest maintains the physical environment of the campus and provides services and coordination and execution of projects that support the University in reaching its goal of excellence in education and public service.
The mission of Indiana University Northwest Facilities Services Department is to develop, manage, maintain, repair, and renovate the university's infrastructure and facilities; to manage campus assets, energy; in support of the University's mission.
The Maintenance unit is responsible for the upkeep and repair of HVAC systems, electrical, plumbing, flooring and other building infrastructure controls and needs on the Northwest Campus. In addition, Facilities Services coordinates the requisition and assignment of keys for campus access and coordinates with contractors to complete campus projects when necessary.
Job Summary
- Performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on campus buildings, facilities, equipment or machinery.
- Assembles, installs and/or repairs: wiring, electrical and electronic components, plumbing/pipe systems, physical structures, fixtures, paint, HVAC systems, locks/access systems, compressors, generators, engines, etc.
- Diagnoses problems and determines corrective solutions, referring to and/or adhering to building codes, blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary.
- Repairs or replaces defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools, and reassembles equipment.
- May lead other maintenance staff on projects or assist in a general maintenance capacity when others are in a lead role.
- Maintains parts, supplies, and equipment advising supervisor when supplies need to be ordered.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including general building maintenance duties. Drives University vehicles as needed. Works any shift as needed. 24-hour a day emergency response as needed. Assists with snow removal activities as necessary. Must be available to work during inclement weather (i.e. snow and ice) when weather emergencies dictate that the department is needed to take care of the campus.
QualificationsEDUCATION
Required- High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 5 years of Verifiable journey-level experience OR
- Certificate in DOL apprenticed trade (electrical/plumbing/HVAC/carpentry)
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required- Valid drivers license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire
Preferred- License in pneumatic, electric, mechanical, electronic, DDC controls, or a combination

- May be required to acquire and maintain position-required certifications
Working Conditions / DemandsThis role requires the ability to remain in a stationary position as well as the ability to move about the workplace for long durations. It requires effective communication, the ability to operate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires the ability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position one's self in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or gases. The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and move in tight spaces to perform and complete inspections. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary$48,000.00 - $51,000.00 per year based on experience.
