Primary Role

Maintains, installs, and repairs water treatment plant equipment. At times required to operate the treatment plant in a way that meets all state and federal regulatory requirements.

Key Accountabilities

  • Troubleshoots, installs, operates, maintains, inspects, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance duties on the equipment at the water purification plants including, but not limited to, pumps, blowers, motors, chemical feed equipment, screens, mixers, filters, flow meters, gauges, valves, wash water processing equipment and related instrumentation and control equipment. Calibrates and adjusts chemical feed and process equipment including instrumentation and control systems.
  • Monitors the water purification plants and makes adjustments as necessary to control their operations. Performs sampling, testing, and laboratory analysis to monitor process and determine compliance with Federal, state, and AW's standards. Performs necessary emergency operating procedures and takes proper corrective action for continuous effective operation of the water purification plants.
  • Maintains all necessary records, tools, and work equipment. Performs maintenance and custodial duties at the water purification plants.
  • Performs light construction projects as needed including carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, masonry, etc. Specifies and initiates orders for parts and supplies.
  • Assumes duties of Plant Operator in the absence of the Operator.
  • Performs delivery, loading, unloading, and placing of water treatment chemicals into storage, including chemical receiving and inventory. Maintains grounds, buildings, roadways, screens, reservoirs, and rightof-ways.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Mechanical ability sufficient to understand the operation of pumps, valves, motors, and other mechanical equipment related to plant operation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of basic scientific and water purification concepts.
  • Must have broad knowledge of MS Office products including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must understand the working principle behind a computerized maintenance management program.

Experience/Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years prior experience maintaining equipment in an industrial setting is preferred. Prior water treatment experience is desirable.

Certifications & Licenses

  • Valid driver license.
  • Pennsylvania DEP Class A Wastewater Operator License with subclass 1 preferred or ability to obtain within 2 years of hire date.

Work Environment

  • Work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • May be required to work in buildings, in pits, on scaffoldings or in confined spaces.
  • May be exposed to possible operations hazards including fumes and caustic chemicals, heavy machinery, high pressure, slippery surfaces, water/wastewater hazards and electrical equipment.
  • Potential exposure to dust, pollen, chemicals, and sewage.
  • Must be able to perform essential functions and meet the physical requirements for the position.
