Duration: 12+ Months

Potential to Extend- YES
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 7:30AM - 4:00PM.
Start Date: ASAP
Hourly Rate: $21.50/per hour

Job Description:

We are seeking a Plant Quality Technician to join our team, responsible for supporting plant care and agronomic research efforts. This hands-on position will involve a variety of tasks related to plant health, pest management, and the overall quality of plant production in a greenhouse environment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Perform various plant care duties, including monitoring plant health, applying treatments, and maintaining quality standards.
• Work with a wide range of agronomic crops, including those that shed pollen, requiring attention to environmental factors.
• Work in a greenhouse environment with high temperature and humidity.
• Conduct independent research tasks that require a high degree of attention to detail and thoroughness.
• Apply pesticides and other treatments as needed, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and pesticide application standards.
• Mix and apply beneficial organisms (such as insects and other arthropods) for pest control and plant health enhancement.
• Scout plants for pests, beneficial organisms, and assess plant quality regularly.
• Obtain Iowa Pesticide Certification for Greenhouse 3G within 30 days of hire.
• Mix and apply pesticides, ensuring proper calibration and safety procedures, including wearing spray suits and respiratory protection.
• Calibrate equipment to ensure accurate pesticide application.
• Assist with watering and fertilizing crops to support healthy growth.
• Mix, clean, and calibrate various fertilizer equipment to ensure optimal performance.
• Conduct growing media quality testing to assess soil health and plant growth conditions.
• Support various plant care research activities, contributing to ongoing studies in plant quality and pest management.

Job Qualifications & Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow standard operating procedures, safety protocols, and ergonomics guidelines.
• Must be able to obtain Iowa Pesticide Certification for Greenhouse 3G within 30 days of hire.
• Excellent communication skills with a high degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to use basic computer applications (MS Word, Excel, Outlook) and a willingness to learn internal research software.
• Ability to stand/sit for long periods and perform repetitive tasks in a warm, humid greenhouse environment.
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and work in conditions with pollen present year-round.
• A strong commitment to meeting deadlines and delivering results on time.
• Flexibility to work a rotating shift, including potential overtime and weekend hours as required to meet business needs.

Preferences - It Would Be Great If You Have:

• Previous experience in areas such as greenhouse plant care, agronomy, horticulture, gardening, or biology research.
• A keen interest in agronomic research and plant care.

Hours:

• Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM

Bonus Structure:

• $500 bonus paid after 6 months of employment.
• $1,000 bonus paid after 12 months of employment (repeats annually with continued employment).
