Title: Instructor, Music- 9/10 month (Term)
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is a nine-month faculty position responsible for preparing and delivering quality instruction in Music in an equitable environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach courses via on-ground, online, hybrid or web-enhanced delivery modes as assigned, predominantly Introduction to Music (Music Appreciation) courses, and others that may be assigned. This position will be based on the White Bridge Road campus with teaching assignments on all Davidson County campuses and prison sites. Additional teaching assignments are possible at any campus or site at which NSCC instruction takes place. Within a minimum workweek of 37.5 hours, faculty are expected to teach a minimum of 15 hours and hold in-person and virtual office hours as defined in College Policy.
Work with Course Lead, Program Coordinator, Department Chair, and Dean to ensure consistent and equitable student experiences. Utilize the college's learning management system (D2L) to provide accurate and updated course materials to students. Submit updated and accurate syllabi prior to the first day of class. Regularly check NSCC email and departmental mailbox. Respond to emails/messages within 24 hours, except on the weekend. Complete all required reports such as attendance, Early Alerts, progress reports, grade submissions; administer and return questionnaires and student outcome assessments by the required deadlines.
Submit final grades for each semester by the deadline established by the registrar. Provide academic advising to students with an emphasis on retention and success. Remain current in the teaching area(s) through appropriate professional development activities. Actively participate on committees within the Department of Music, the School of Arts and Humanities, and college-wide committees. Collaborate in building and maintaining relationships within and beyond the institution. Engage in departmental institutional effectiveness activities. Comply with all college and TBR policies and guidelines. May perform other duties as assigned by the Academic Dean.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree or higher in Music, Applied Music, Music Performance, Music History, Music Literature, Musicology, or Ethnomusicology, OR
Master's degree or higher in another discipline (including Music Education) and at least 18 graduate semester hours in Music, Applied Music, Music Performance, Music Literature, Music History, Music Literature, Musicology, or Ethnomusicology.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Documented experience teaching at the college level.
Demonstrated commitment to equity and accessibility.
Demonstrated understanding of the community college mission and needs of the student population.
Documented experience with ensemble direction (choir, band, orchestra, etc.) at the college level.
Documented experience teaching Introduction to Music / Music Appreciation at the collegiate level.
Documented experience teaching Music Theory and Aural Skills at the college level.
Documented experience teaching Music courses in a variety of modalities including in-person, hybrid, virtual, and asynchronously online.
Demonstrated experience incorporating current technologies into teaching.
Terminal degree in Music, Applied Music, Music Performance, Music History, Music Literature, Musicology, or Ethnomusicology
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of and experience teaching using a variety of instructional delivery modes. Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively and collaboratively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and relevant instructional technologies.

Rate of Pay: $39,097.00 - $48,871.00 depending on experience
