Injection Mold Designer Summary:

The Injection Mold Designer will support the the molding and be the subject matter expert (SME) responsible for developing plastic injection mold and fixture designs to be used in prototype and production, through the application of mold design fundamentals, sound engineering, applied research, and design for manufacture (DFM) principles. This role will use Computer Aided Design (CAD) software to design the tools and equipment needed for injection molding, as well as designing the fixtures required for related activities. Will work with the cross-functional engineering team, internal and external customers, and vendors to ensure the designs meet industry best practices, follow internal procedures, and deliver on our commitments to customers.
Responsibilities

Injection Mold Designer Responsibilities:

  • Conceptual engineering for new mold designs - ability to see the solution by reviewing the part CAD model and drawing, identify the mold splits, and lay out the mold using the CAD software
  • Utilize SolidWorks and/or Creo Pro-Engineer mold design CAD software
  • Perform Design for Manufacture (DFM) review of customer designs and/or supplied mold designs, identify project risks, and provide engineering solutions
  • Collaborate with Design Engineering and the NPD/NPI project teams, following the Staged Gate Development Process in compliance with the Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Create and maintain mold component models and drawings for mold construction in-house and/or with external suppliers
  • Create and maintain fixture component models and drawings for construction in-house and/or with external suppliers
  • Accountable to the function of the tooling manufactured to their design
  • Be innovative using the latest methods, strategies, and technologies available
  • Work according to a pre-defined schedule with an ability to flex efforts to meet project milestones
  • Design in compliance with pre-defined build specifications, leveraging personal know-how, industry standard practices, and inputs from SME's
  • Work in a project team environment with cross-functional engineering team led by the project leader
Qualifications

Injection Mold Designer Qualifications:
  • Associates Degree in mold design, mechanical design, a technical or engineering related field, or equivalent experience designing injection molding tooling
  • A minimum of 4+ years' proven experience designing injection mold tooling
  • Proficient in SolidWorks and/or Creo Pro-Engineer CAD for mold design
  • Very strong analytical and trouble shooting skills
  • Knowledge of mold tooling design and construction, including appropriate selection of tool steels and other construction materials
  • Ability to work under pressure as an individual contributor, while being led in a team environment
  • Functional understanding of injection molding process and Scientific Injection Molding (SIMs) principles
  • A demonstrated ability to effectively make decisions, set clear measurable and aggressive objectives for projects and programs, break complex problems into manageable tasks, and define end dates to meet deadlines
  • Possesses advanced verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and team building skills to create effective working relationships with suppliers, customers and co-workers
Injection Mold Designer Preferred Qualifications:
  • Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
  • Prior experience in part CAD design for molding applications
  • Moldex 3D experience, or similar CAE mold filling software experience
  • PDM experience
  • Knowledge of Medical Molding industry, and ISO 13485
  • Prior CNC machining/toolmaker experience
Physical & Environmental Demands:

Cretex Companies use cutting oils, solvents, and other chemicals in the manufacturing process. Testing is conducted on a periodic basis to ensure that all chemicals are kept well below the OSHA permissible exposure levels.
