Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research through application of engineering principles, analytical models (stress, FEA, fatigue, performance) and apply problem-solving methods to support new product development and/or sustaining production of existing designs.
  • Integral team member, leading project tasks according to plan, on time, and within budget.
  • Evaluate new technologies through research and test, including attendance of industry symposiums, seminars, and conferences.
  • Design prototype components and test fixtures to advance development of new technology and communicate design intent.
  • Write test plans and test reports in support of prototype component and assembly testing, maintaining accurate design and test data records.
  • Summarize R&D results and communicate findings to management and customers.
  • Establish new technology readiness through appropriate development tests with documentation to enable design team application.
  • Interact with customers to predict future requirements and develop key technologies consistent with long term proprietary strategic position.
  • Support research and grant proposal creation for submittal to research sponsors and customers.
  • Support intellectual property strategy with unique and patentable ideas demonstrated by test and implemented in new product designs.

Required Job Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Mechatronics Engineering
  • 8+ years experience as a design engineer in all aspects of a product's lifecycle - from initial design phase, through procurement and testing of a prototype, transition to production phase, and involvement in long term product support. Lower levels of experience combined with an advanced degree may be considered.
  • Experience with Aerospace and Defense industry product quality requirements
  • Ability to investigate, diagnose and resolve complex technical challenges in a team environment and communicate results in clear simple terms with minimal direction
  • Successful experience in an R&D and/or product engineering environment
  • Demonstrated experience in solving complex engineering challenges in a concurrent team environment
  • Demonstrated experience with advanced design and manufacturing processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of 3D modeling software (CREO preferred) and 3D stress analysis software (Ansys preferred) or computational fluid dynamics
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and MS Office skills.
  • Up to 10% travel
  • US Citizenship mandatory, security clearance a plus
  • Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job.

Preferred Job Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Highly Valued - Hydraulics experience including design and development of hydraulic and/or electromechanical components including actuators, control valves, manifolds, etc.
  • Highly Valued - Design and/or system experience with hybrid electro-hydraulic components
  • Substantial ANSYS and CREO experience
  • Experience using MATLAB, Simulink or similar coding languages
  • Experience with vibration data acquisition and analysis
  • Additive manufacturing experience and/or training including design methodology, process controls, and customer qualification
  • Electrical and/or Mechanical hands-on aptitude displayed through personal hobbies/projects

ITAR Requirement: Due to ITAR regulations, this position requires that the employee must be a U.S. Citizen.

Quality Requirement: Employees will participate in understanding, implementing and maintaining the Company Quality Policy in accordance with AS9100 and/or ISO 9001 requirements.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The employee will be required to move throughout the building to collect, handle and process production and prototype parts.
