Position Overview: FORTNA is seeking a talented and results-driven Commodity Manager of Global Transportation to develop, implement, and continuously improve a worldwide transportation strategy. This role will have end-to-end responsibility for both the sourcing and operational management of direct carrier partnerships and third-party logistics (3PL) providers. The Commodity Manager will manage multiple transportation modes, including international freight, LTL (Less-Than-Truckload), parcel, and small package services, ensuring cost efficiency, service quality, and alignment with broader supply chain goals.
In this role, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with warehouse operations, factory and project management teams, and other key internal stakeholders to ensure that transportation solutions meet the company's service, cost, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Sourcing & Procurement:
- Develop and execute a global transportation strategy, leveraging direct supplier relationships and 3PL partnerships to achieve optimal cost, quality, and performance outcomes.
- Lead the carrier selection and negotiation process, establishing contracts and service-level agreements (SLAs) that support business objectives.
- Identify, qualify, and onboard new carriers and logistics partners to ensure a flexible, resilient, and competitive transportation network.
Operations & Performance Management:
- Oversee day-to-day transportation activities, ensuring on-time delivery, cost containment, and compliance with safety and regulatory requirements across multiple transportation modes.
- Lead a transportation specialist, providing mentorship, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities.
- Monitor carrier performance against key metrics such as on-time delivery, damage rates, and capacity utilization; implement corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives as needed.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with internal teams, including warehousing, factory operations, project management, and customer service, to ensure seamless end-to-end material flow and distribution.
- Partner with installation and site teams to design and execute effective inbound and outbound transportation plans that minimize disruption, optimize costs, and ensure timely project completion.
- Collaborate with global sourcing colleagues to align transportation sourcing strategies with the broader corporate supply chain framework.
Risk Management & Compliance:
- Stay informed on global trade compliance, customs regulations, and market trends that could impact transportation strategies.
- Implement risk mitigation strategies, including contingency planning and diversified carrier portfolios, to ensure business continuity in the face of disruptions.
- Ensure all transportation activities adhere to corporate sustainability goals, safety standards, and legal/regulatory requirements.
Data Analysis & Continuous Improvement:
- Utilize analytical tools and data-driven insights to identify cost-savings opportunities, optimize routing and mode selection, and improve overall transportation efficiency.
- Conduct regular market analysis to anticipate changes in transportation capacity, lead times, and pricing, adjusting strategies accordingly.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging Lean principles, technology solutions, and cross-functional collaboration to streamline transportation processes and enhance service quality.
Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Logistics, or a related field. An MBA or advanced degree is a plus.

Experience:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in transportation, logistics, or supply chain management, preferably with global scope.
- Proven track record in negotiating carrier contracts and managing 3PL partnerships.

Skills:
- Strong leadership and team management abilities, with experience guiding a small team toward performance goals.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in data analysis, transportation management systems (TMS), and ERP software.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Familiarity with international trade compliance, customs procedures, and related regulations.
The base salary range for this role is $100,700 to $151,100. This base salary range represents the low and high end of the base salary range for this position. Actual base salary offered will vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and performance.
