Job Title:Faculty - Department of Biomedical Informatics, Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology (Assistant Professor/Tenure track)Department:Medicine | School Biomed Sci - Biomedical Informatics

Tenure faculty (regardless of rank) - persons with the titles of professor, associate professor, assistant professor and instructor who serve on appointments totaling 50% or more service to the university and who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. Duties and responsibilities are assigned in accordance with the workload guidelines laid out in the pattern of administration of each faculty member's tenure initiation unit (TIU) and, as appropriate, regional campus; obligations will include research, service and/or teaching or clinical practice. These faculty will have earned doctorate or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study or possession of equivalent experience.

Division of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (DBCB, https://medicine.osu.edu/departments/biomedical-informatics/divisions/division-of-bioinformatics-and-computational-biology-division-bcbs) in the Department of Biomedical Informatics (BMI, http://bmi.osu.edu) and The Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology (PIIO, https://cancer.osu.edu/piio) at The Ohio State University (OSU) are currently seeking applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor position in bioinformatics and immuno-informatics.

Position Overview

The Department of BMI and the PIIO seek applicants for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor level faculty position specializing in bioinformatics and immuno informatics for cancer research. The recruited faculty member will join a highly collaborative community of more than 30 investigators in BMI working in a wide variety of sub-domains including bioinformatics, biostatistics, AI/ML in digital health, clinical informatics, and implementation science. Scientific collaborations and research interests in the following areas are highly desired:

  • Advancement of single-cell and spatial multi-omics methods and computational/bioinformatics tools, including AI and ML-based tools
  • Discovery of underlying gene regulatory mechanisms and cell heterogeneity in tumor microenvironment across sex and/or species
  • Integration of phenotypic data with that from complementary sequencing methodologies including genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics.

Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will work as part of a collaborative team with investigators across the health sciences campus to develop grant proposals and design studies for clinical trials, basic science, and high-throughput omics at both The Ohio State University and PIIO. Opportunities to develop methodologies, teach courses within our graduate programs, and mentor graduate students are available and encouraged. In addition, the candidate will develop formative links with other PIIO faculty residing in immunology, medicine, and microbiology.

Requirements
Successful candidates will have a PhD in Bioinformatics, Biomedical Informatics, Computer Science, Statistics, Immunology, or a related discipline and develop a research program focused on using integrated experimental/ computational approaches with experiences and/or interests to explore the underlying mechanisms in immuno-oncology and cancer treatment.

Department/Division Overview

The PIIO is a comprehensive bench-to-bedside research initiative focused on harnessing the body's immune system to fight cancer at all levels (https://cancer.osu.edu/piio). Led by founding director Zihai Li, MD, PhD, the PIIO builds upon a rich portfolio of active investigator-initiated IO clinical trials being conducted at the OSUCCC - James. PIIO faculty conduct research in Systems and Translational IO. The PIIO is supported by our Immune Monitoring and Discovery Platform (IMDP), which provides comprehensive cell-based and molecule-based immunoassay services to support basic, translational, and clinical IO studies. The PIIO's Immuno-Oncology Informatics Group (IOIG) provides data analytics for flow and mass cytometry, bulk and single-cell RNA-Seq, spatial transcriptomics and imaging, neoantigen discovery, and more.

As part of the College of Medicine at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC, http://medicalcenter.osu.edu), the Department of Biomedical Informatics (BMI, https://bmi.osu.edu) provides an academic home for informatics and biostatistics research, development and training at Ohio State. The Department of Biomedical Informatics has the most comprehensive academic programs in the nation, including bioinformatics and computational biology, clinical informatics, AI in digital health, implementation science, and biostatistics. Division of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology of BMI stands at the crossroads of computer science, engineering, mathematics, biology, and medicine. Through advanced computational and analytical approaches, we deduce innovative biological hypotheses and conclusions. We champion the development and application of data-mining algorithms, computational methods, and systems-biology approaches, addressing vital challenges in biomedicine.
