Introduction to role:

Join us as an Executive or Senior Director for Purification Process Sciences in Gaithersburg, MD. This is a unique opportunity to channel your scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients' lives. We are constantly pushing the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines to patients, with a passion for discovery and a pipeline to show for it. This group leader position will provide scientific, operational, and strategic leadership for the Purification Process Sciences group within the Biopharmaceutical Development (BPD) organization at AstraZeneca.

Accountabilities:

In this role, you will establish strategy, direction, and objectives for purification process development. You will engage with Research project teams to fully understand the physiochemical and biological attributes of clinical drug candidates. You will also develop innovative approaches for clinical and commercial manufacturing for biopharmaceuticals and drive continuous improvement of platforms to enhance performance and efficiency. You will serve as a spokesperson for BPD in communications with regulatory agencies, AZ senior leadership meetings, R&D product development teams for all therapeutic areas, and other internal and external groups of interest.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in chemistry/biochemistry, chemical/biochemical engineering, or related subject area.
  • For Senior Director, 15+ years of experience with PhD or 20+ years of experience with BS/MS.
  • For Executive Director, 20+ years of experience with PhD or 25+ years of experience with BS/MS.
  • Established expertise in a biopharmaceutical company with relevant experience in purification process development and tech transfer for biological products.
  • Shown ability to work effectively in cross-functional matrix organization.
  • Experience as an effective leader and coach for a diverse team of staff members.
  • Demonstrated experience progressing biopharmaceutical products to licensure.
