Job Description: Environmental Specialist I

The Environmental Specialist I will support the Environmental Manager in driving continuous compliance with environmental regulations across all Wiregrass facilities. This role involves conducting inspections, coordinating the accomplishment of a variety of recurring compliance tasks, ensuring accomplishment and maintenance of relevant documentation, and collaborating with facility teams to develop sustainable compliance strategies. The successful candidate will be a proactive problem solver who values teamwork, regulatory adherence, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Environmental Compliance Efforts:
    • Partner with the Environmental Manager to implement strategies that ensure ongoing compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and company policies at all Wiregrass locations.
  • Conduct Environmental Site Inspections:
    • Perform regular inspections at all facilities to monitor and assess compliance with environmental standards, identifying potential issues and recommending corrective actions.
  • Coordinate Environmental Testing and Training:
    • Assist facilities in scheduling and carrying out required environmental testing, as well as organizing relevant training sessions for staff. Ensure timely completion of all regulatory requirements.
  • Documentation Review and Reporting:
    • Review environmental reports for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance. Work with facility teams to ensure that records and required documents are up-to-date, organized, and easily accessible in the document repository.
  • Maintain Compliance Assurance:
    • Support compliance initiatives by gathering, updating, and reviewing documents needed for permits and regulatory requirements at each site. Ensure documentation is maintained according to internal protocols and regulatory standards.
  • Develop Sustainable Compliance Infrastructure:
    • Contribute to the creation and ongoing development of self-sustaining systems designed to ensure each facility's continuous adherence to environmental compliance requirements.
  • Foster Positive Relationships:
    • Build and maintain strong working relationships with Wiregrass staff, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to facilitate collaboration and compliance.
  • Collaborate with the Safety Team:
    • Work closely with the Safety Team to ensure alignment between environmental and safety initiatives, driving a culture of safety and environmental responsibility across the organization.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in environmental compliance or a similar role is an asset.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations (preferred).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and pdf editing software; experience with drafting software is a plus.
