Department
PHYSICS (BL-PHYS-IUBLA)
Department Information
The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest academic unit at Indiana University Bloomington. It is composed of over 40 departments, more than 50 Centers, Programs, and Institutes, while also including the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture and Design, the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies, and The Media School. Faculty in the College teach over 50 percent of the Indiana University (Bloomington) credit hours in more than 80 buildings on the Bloomington campus.
These are extraordinary times in physics, with the development of new tools for observing the universe and testing its fundamental laws. Here at Indiana University, we investigate new materials with exotic properties, make use of innovative technologies based on those materials, and gain an emerging ability to control entangled quantum-mechanical systems.
Our faculty and students engage in research that leads discovery in the many areas, both theoretical and applied. Our faculty are leaders in many research areas including particle, nuclear, quantum information, atomic, molecular, optical, condensed matter, and biophysics. We work locally and in collaborations with laboratories throughout the US and world. We take pride in the educational opportunities we provide our students to learn physics laboratory methods.
