The Ohio State University College of Dentistry seeks a Dispensing Assistant to join the patient care team in Clinic Administration to support the Dental Clinics. The College's Dispensing Unit in Clinic Administration is an important function in the health care delivery system, providing a high level of customer service focusing on safe, effective and efficient dispensing/sterilization services to the college clinics.

The Dispensing Assistant assists students and faculty in the provision of patient care activities and/or simulation activities by dispensing a high volume of supplies and equipment in a fast paced clinical environment; dispenses instruments/equipment/ materials to dental and dental hygiene students in eight predoctoral clinics according to departmental standards; stocks / orders supplies for dispensary areas and clinical cabinets, accurately scans out/in equipment and instrument cassettes dispensed utilizing the college tracking system or if necessary by established manual process; transports instruments/equipment/materials to / from dispensaries and examines returned equipment, instrument cassettes, bur blocks and other items returned for wear, damage or missing elements. Receives a high volume of contaminated instruments/equipment throughout the work day, inspects to ensure integrity / transports to Central Sterilization; takes quarterly inventory; cleans student back labs daily; heat seals dispensary supplies; follows OSHA, HIPAA, and college safety and infection control procedures.
This position may include some weekends and evening work; hours will vary depending on the needs of the dispensing areas; requires successful completion of background check(s) and drug and alcohol screenings.
Compensation
$15.70 - $20.67/hour
Schedule
Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Candidate must be able to: work nights and/or weekends as needed for college events; frequent lifting/pulling/pushing up to 50lbs; frequent bending/twisting/turning/reaching below knees and above shoulders; and involves frequent standing/walking; needs to have full use of both hands, as well as significant dexterity in the fingers and the ability to manipulate instruments, equipment and materials. Other specific requirements include color spectrum differentiation; significant manual dexterity/motor coordination, hand-eye coordination, physical communications; visual acuity and communication/ language development. Individuals in this position may be exposed to the following: blood borne pathogens; chemical hazards (skin irritants); vibrating equipment; use of sharp instruments; and latex.

Required Qualifications
Required: 3 months experience (3 courses) in dental office practices and procedures; 3 months experience (3 courses) in dental operatory practices and procedures; 3 months experience (3 courses) in four-handed assisting techniques; 3 months experience (3 courses) in inventory record-keeping; 3 months experience (300 hrs. training) in care of dental equipment; 1 month experience (100 hrs. training) in using a computer. MUST PASS HEALTH STANDARDS AND REQUIREMENTS PRESCRIBED BY LAW PRIOR TO APPOINTMENT (e.g., hepatitis, vaccination series, and TB test). Positions performing radiography must be registered with the Ohio Dental Board as a Dental Assistant Radiographer
Desired: Three or more years of full time chair side experience or 6 years or more of part-time chair side experience; current CPR license; current radiology license; high school diploma or equivalent; and completion of an accredited dental assistant training program. Knowledge of dental technology, terminology, office practices and procedures, inventory recordkeeping procedures, infection control procedures, sterilization procedures, OSHA and HIPAA, dental nomenclature, products and instruments. Experience using a personal computer and Microsoft Office to generate a variety of materials ranging from basic to complex; experience in customer service setting; excellent interpersonal skills; ability to consistently contribute to and work within a fast-paced team environment.
