The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the Department of Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in the non-tenure clinician educator track. Applicants must have an M.D. or equivalent degree. Candidates must have certifications BC/BE in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

Teaching responsibilities may include teaching Penn students, residents, fellows, and possibly graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.

Clinical responsibilities may include care that specializes in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). These services may be required at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP), Penn Presbyterian Medical Center (PPMC), Pennsylvania Hospital (PAH), and/or Penn Medicine at Radnor (PMR).

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include working on research in the field of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, as well as collaboration with members of labs in their research and give their contributions. The research infrastructure is outstanding for clinical trials, clinical research, and basic/translational research. The selected candidate is expected to participate in research, promote research collaborations and/or facilitate research in IBD. Evidence of scholarship is required in the Clinician-Educator track.

We seek a candidate to lead the Section of IBD. Penn has had an illustrious history in this field and is at the forefront of delivering specialized care, research and education in IBD. The Penn IBD practice sees large numbers patients and currently consists of 10 faculty specializing in this area. Our practice locations offer state-of-the-art endoscopy units, clinic rooms and offices. Inpatient care provided at three of the hospitals, all with their own endoscopy suites, as well as robust teams that includes inpatient and outpatient advanced practice providers, nurses and medical assistants. The research infrastructure is outstanding for clinical trials, clinical research, and basic/translational research.

We seek candidates that specialize in IBD, with experience in the multidisciplinary delivery of care for this patient population. The ideal candidate should have administrative or leadership experience in some aspect of IBD related to clinical care, research, education and mentorship. Experience in performing clinical trials is preferred. The candidate should have experience in the education of learners in gastroenterology, in particular IBD. Participation in Divisional Grand Rounds, and other gastroenterology subspecialty conferences is expected. Candidates will have demonstrated excellent qualifications in education and clinical care.

The Director of Section of IBD will be responsible for all aspects of the academic mission pertaining to IBD: clinical care, education and research. Oversee the delivery care, including access, creating pathway for efficient care and integration of advanced practice providers (APP), nurses and other staff. The individual will be responsible in promoting research that includes but not limited to clinical trials, biobanking, translational research and fostering collaborations. The individual will also be responsible for the mentorship in the Section and work with the Vice Chief of Faculty Development to develop the next academic leaders. The Director of IBD will promote the values of the Division, which include excellence, trust, teamwork, equity, accountability and innovation. To promote diversity, equity and inclusion, the Director of IBD will collaborate with the Vice Chief of DEI to promote these values.

The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology is a vibrant, highly interactive, and collaborative academic and clinical environment with about 76 faculty, 26 fellows, and more than 200 staff. The Division provides clinical care in programs dedicated to General Gastroenterology, IBD, Neurogastroenterology, Esophagus, Advanced Therapeutics, Hepatology, GI Genetics, Nutrition/small bowel, and Women's GI Health.
