How you can make a bigger difference:

Join a fun-loving and hard working Development team as the Director of Individual Giving. This exciting, newly created role, will be the staff lead for individual and major gifts at The Jewish Board. Our new Director of Individual Giving will have the opportunity to shape strategy, develop campaigns, and build meaningful philanthropic relationships with major donors.

In partnership with the Chief Development Officer, the Director will be the key staff in identifying, researching, soliciting, and stewarding donors; the Director will also have a portfolio of mid-level and major donors. He/she/they will oversee the acknowledgement and appreciation process, create opportunities for donor education and engagement, and more. The agency and our Board of Trustees is committed to growing Individual Giving in a significant way and the Director of Individual Giving will help chart this course.

Collaborative work is important - and the Director of Individual Giving will frequently partner with colleagues throughout the agency, including others on the Development team, which includes Foundation/Corporate Giving, Special Events, and Volunteer Services.

Some responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Be passionate and enthusiastic about people, philanthropy, and helping donors make a difference for New Yorkers.
  • Provide leadership and strategy for Individual Giving at The Jewish Board. Help to double individual giving at the agency in the next several years.
  • Identify, cultivate, and secure new mid-level and major donors annually, including both general support and targeted gifts.
  • Manage a portfolio of existing mid-level and prospective major donors, including proactively scheduling meetings, site visits, and creating stewardship/engagement events & opportunities.
  • Routinely solicit 5 and 6-figure gifts.
  • Bring knowledge of - and implement - best practices and new technologies.
  • Direct annual appeal strategy, content, and results analysis
  • Partner with Chief Development Officer on efforts to engage major donors in the work of the Board's program committees.
  • Present regularly to the Development Committee of the Board
  • Use data to track and improve our work. Facility with Raisers Edge a plus.
  • Be a contributing member of the Development Team, partnering with and supporting colleagues on priority initiatives.

EDUCATIONAL / TRAINING REQUIRED
  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED / LANGUAGE PREFERENCE
  • 10+ years of related experience. Knowledge of social services and development/fundraising.
  • Experience working with major donors; comfort discussing high-level philanthropy
  • This individual must have the ability to work individually on projects as well as be a team player.

COMPUTER SKILLS REQUIRED (List the computer skills needed):
  • Experience with database software like Raisers' Edge a plus

VISUAL AND MANUAL DEXIERITY:
  • The candidate should be able to read documents for analytical purposes such as computer information, software, computer graphic design programs, etc.
  • Limited applications of manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL EFFORT
  • The work environment involves no physical risk or hazardous conditions.
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours required; travel throughout the five boroughs may be required for site visits and meetings.
  • To perform the essential functions of this job, the candidate is routinely required to sit (85% of the time) and stand (15% of the time)
