This is a full-time twelve-month position reporting to the Dean of Arts, Sciences, and Technologies. The director will be responsible for overseeing assigned course programming to incarcerated students. The director will collaborate with faculty and staff in the division and college to implement educational opportunities to students who are incarcerated.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participate in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating the Correctional Education Initiative curriculum at DSCC.
Possess a comprehensive understanding of guidelines and regulations set forth by TN Department of Corrections to ensure compliance.
Become certified in and fully use the course management system for all courses delivered to incarcerated students.
Participate in professional and committee activities including serving on College committees as assigned by the Dean.
Meet with incarcerated students weekly to twice weekly at all of the off-site correctional facilities.
Collaborate with distance education and academic departments to facilitate learning within the security limitations set forth by the Tennessee Department of Corrections.
Facilitate and monitor student enrollment progress, persistence, and completion by serving as the academic advisor to incarcerated students.
In consultation with the dean, chairs, and faculty, assist in the preparation of course schedules to keep incarcerated student cohorts on track for completion.
Mediate resolution of conflicts between students and faculty in consultation with the Academic Dean and the Dean of Student Services.
Monitor and evaluate each course shell before it is sent to CEI+ to ensure compliance.
Provide direct service to students in-person and online to meet student needs.
Complete Master Advisor training.
Collaborate with stakeholders across the college to ensure program success
Collaborate with Student Services staff to assist formerly incarcerated students as they transition to re-entry.
Serve as the budget manager for the CEI Program, ensuring compliance with grant goals, restrictions, and parameters.
Represent DSCC at all correctional education initiative conferences and meetings by working closely with the Tennessee Board of Regents CEI Program Director(s) and associated third- party partners.
Prepare and submit reports and contracts associated with the CEI program.
Work with the Director of Admissions & Records to plan and execute commencement exercises at the correctional facilities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Sedentary: Desk work; travel will be required weekly/bi-weekly for each correctional facility. Insignificant effort other than normal movement. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to communicate well in oral and written English.
Commitment to instruction and providing quality education for students.
Qualities of integrity, initiative, and good judgment with high ethical standards.
Ability to work and communicate effectively with individuals and/or groups.
Ability to regularly travel to DSCC main campus and off-site locations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Teaching experience.
Bachelor's degree
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working with incarcerated students.
Master's degree in a social services field.
Administrative experience.
Minimum starting pay is $40,600 annually. With additional experience pay increases to a maximum of $50,700.
