Job Description:
The Development Program Specialist (DPS) is responsible for (1) the secondary strategic management of a portfolio of approximately 75-100 highly-rated principal and major giving prospects in partnership with senior fundraising leaders to create readiness for solicitation, handling communications, and coordinating stewardship with emphasis on donors capable of giving $5M+; (2) being the primary individual responsible for strategically planning and executing high impact, efficient and effective development activities pertaining to the prospect portfolio that enables efficacious partnerships with the President and senior administration in key regional markets; (3) providing training, onboarding, and guidance to Development Associates and Development Coordinators to support regional engagement and prospect work and ensure consistency in adhering to processes.
This position requires in-depth knowledge of the University, its initiatives, and its internal and external constituents to strategically advance high-impact development activities promoting University priorities in alignment with prospect interests and to ensure the University leadership is effectively and efficiently engaged with top prospects based on continually evolving variables including timing, readiness, relative prioritization across multiple portfolios, and awareness of other evolving philanthropic discussions. The incumbent needs to be well informed about numerous key donor relationships in order to be able to adjust to shifting priorities and use judgment in prioritizing activities that directly impact University leadership and top prospects. The DPS routinely interacts with a variety of University colleagues, including those in Advancement leadership, Alumni Relations, Development, various academic departments, and faculty members, among others.

This position is located in Providence, RI.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in a related field, such as fundraising, development, sales, customer relations, nonprofit, and/or higher education.
Required Qualifications
- Experience planning and executing high-end events.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
- Strong project/time management skills. Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to handle and complete multiple projects concurrently.
- Demonstrated ability with computer software programs including but not limited to, Google Suite, spreadsheets, and FileMaker Pro databases. Use Microsoft Office, specifically Excel. Microsoft Word is required.
- Must have computer proficiency and Information Management Skills to carry out the major responsibilities of this position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a higher-education fundraising, or complex organization is preferred.
- Knowledge of Blackbaud preferred.
