Position Overview

Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook. Teaching, research, department/school, college, and university service is expected. The position is a full-time, tenure-track position.

Job Duties

The primary responsibility of this position is teaching a variety of courses for the School of Criminal Justice. The successful candidate should be able to teach a broad range of courses from introductory undergraduate to graduate level, with preferred qualifications in teaching a variety of topics including research methods and technologies used by criminal justice professionals. The successful candidate should also be able to contribute to curriculum development and program revisions. Service and scholarly activities are standard expectations for this position. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. Faculty must be willing to teach in a variety of instructional formats (in-person, hybrid, online) as needed and appropriate. Faculty members are expected to participate in a comprehensive statewide outreach initiative to the Oklahoma criminal justice community.

College/Department Overview

The School of Criminal Justice is housed within the College of Liberal Arts. The School of Criminal Justice has three undergraduate programs and two master's programs which serve approximately 500 students. The School of Criminal Justice has 11 full-time faculty members. The College of Liberal Arts consists of 8 academic units and has over 100 full-time faculty members. For further information, see our website at http://www.uco.edu/la.

Qualifications/Experience Required

An earned doctorate degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institutions in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or Sociology is required. A doctorate in a related field will be considered (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). ABD candidates with a clear dissertation defense date will be considered. **NOTE** If the doctorate is not obtained and submitted by the time of employment, the position rank will change to Tenure Track-Instructor. Candidates should also demonstrate excellence in teaching, a commitment to research/scholarship, and service to the institution.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

The school has partnerships with local criminal justice agencies, which provides faculty and students the opportunity to complete practical research on existing criminal justice problems. Therefore, practical experience in the criminal justice system and the demonstrated ability to participate in academic research are desirable.
