GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: Instructors play a vital role in the program's overall instruction. Instructors bring with them a variety of backgrounds and professional experiences which serve to foster growth in the program and enrich student learning. Instructors are responsible for structuring and supervising the learning experiences of students in the classroom, labs, and in clinical agencies. Must be a certified Central Sterilization Technician and have worked for two full-time years as a CST. Instructors will provide instruction and supervision in a variety of learning environments to Allied Health students in noncredit areas of continuing education and professional development venues.   • DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Effectively teach assigned courses.
  • Serve as a professional role model.
  • Assist students in achieving course objectives.
  • Set up and take down classroom materials and equipment as needed.
  • Provide discipline in the classroom as needed.
  • Prepare lessons and presentations for continuing education and credit classes.
  • Maintain necessary required records.
  • Assist in promotion and support of the program including recruitment activities.
  • Assist in the maintenance and enhancement of communications within the program, the College, and community.
  • Establish a means of being accessible to meet individual student needs.
  • Provide grade reports and feedback to the students in a timely manner.
  • Perform other related work duties as assigned.
  • PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
  • Demonstrates professional role modeling for students, professional appearance and positive attitude.
  • Maintains familiarity with policies and protocols of the program, college and clinical agencies.
  • Be knowledgeable concerning the latest trends and issues in Central Sterilization Health education.
  • Provides student instruction for the full required hours, utilizing instructional time effectively.
  • Assumes responsibility, is prompt and dependable in attendance, and effectively applies problem-solving skills.
  • Assists students in identifying strengths/areas for improvement.
  • Acts as a facilitator of learning' discuss, questions, and directs student learning.
  • Expresses high expectations of student performance concurrent with course objectives.
  • Prepares instruction to coincide with curriculum content and student learning needs.
  • Explains expectations to students; supervises and documents performance; keeps students informed of their progress.
  • Provides immediate feedback to students regarding performance.
  • Maintains confidentiality with patients, students, agencies, and college.
  • Represents the college/program in a positive manner.
  • Establishes rapport with agency personnel and colleagues.
  • Maintains communication with course instructors, program director, and the Instructor/Coordinator.
  • Welcomes, values, and nurtures people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as supports and promotes an environment that accepts differences.

Individuals may perform other duties as assigned. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

    Position involves sitting, standing and/or walking most of the time in a classroom/laboratory setting. Constant (67-100%) reaching, standing, walking, lifting, dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and viewing various types of close visual work. Frequent (34-66%) stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, carrying, and perceiving attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching. Exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally (10-33%). Will travel to other on-campus facilities, off-campus facilities and agencies to teach, attend meetings, etc. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a Certified Central Sterilization Technician and have worked for two full-time years as a CST.
  • Must be able to demonstrate all technical skills required of students. May potentially be subject to bio-hazardous chemicals; moveable mechanical parts; and fumes, odors, dusts, and mists.
  • Person in this position must satisfactorily complete Kirkwood's Blood borne Pathogens training, TB training.
