Indiana University Bloomington (IUB) College Advising Corps (CAC) places exceptional recent college graduates into high schools around the state of Indiana to increase college access and promote a college-going culture among first-generation, underrepresented, and low-income high schools. IUB College Advising Corps is changing lives with our community and student-centric approach to post-secondary access and completion. AmeriCorps members provide essential support to students who are on this path at various stages throughout high school. Members provide mentoring, academic support, coaching, program planning and implementation, and other activities to contribute to the success of students. Members will receive extensive training in a variety of areas to prepare them for a rewarding and successful placement with IUB CAC.
Job Summary
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Provides 1-on-1 college admissions and financial aid advisement to students.
- Helps students complete and submit admissions and financial aid applications.
- Presents in classrooms, assemblies, and student organization meetings over the importance of post-secondary education and services advisers provide.
- Organizes events and activities to promote post-secondary education.
- Collaborates with school personnel to promote the college-going culture at the high school.
- Works with the assigned caseload of students and are charged with providing 1-on-1 advising, academic support, and mentorship, while also leading or co-leading programs for students and families in the summer program.
General Responsibilities
- Oversees the processing and evaluation of all applications for admissions into that school and accompanying material, such as transcripts, to determine eligibility.
- Maintains records and databases of applications; updates and purges as necessary; gathers and collates information from records and prepares reports.
- Reviews applications for completeness, contacts applicants for any missing information or to resolve discrepancies, and obtains any necessary information from other sources.
- Schedules and oversees any applicant interviews.
- Makes recommendations regarding admissions and financial aid decisions; contacts applicant regarding the decision on the admission application.
- Responds to phone and email inquiries on admissions process and status of applications; may assist in the design of recruiting events and materials.
- Counsels potential students regarding courses and grades required for admission.
- May supervise temporary staff in the admissions office; monitors and evaluates job performance.
- Maintains files and databases on students admitted into the school; generates reports based on this information.
- May take on escalated and complex issues; may provide guidance to other admissions staff.
QualificationsCombinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.
EDUCATION
Required- High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required- 4 years of office or related experience
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Preferred- Valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire

Working Conditions / DemandsThis role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
Work LocationThe person in this role will be assigned to an Indiana High School.
This is an in-person position.
Work HoursMonday - Friday, and a handful of Saturdays each semester; with an increase in hours in the summer to accommodate the summer program schedule.
