Position Description :

The School of Art and Design at Texas State University invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track position at the rank of Associate Professor of Practice in Game Design. The successful candidate will articulate a vision for, develop, implement, and coordinate a new, fully online undergraduate program in Game Design that will prepare diverse graduates who are creative problem solvers, possess highly developed conceptual and technical skills, and are strongly competitive in the Game Design industry.

The School of Art and Design has roughly 1,000 students majoring in Art, Art Education, Art History, Communication Design, Photography, and Studio Art. Our state-of-the-art facilities spread across two buildings with 3D facilities including metal and wood shops, foundry, forming and casting, 3D printing, CNC routing, laser cutting/tech, and ceramics. Other notable labs and classrooms include Photography; Expanded Media (time-based art); multiple dedicated computer labs; Printmaking; RISO lab; and Painting and Drawing studios. We are excited to add an online program in Game Design to the opportunities available to students.

Texas State has Carnegie R2 High Research classification and is on track to achieve R1 status in 2027. Sitting at the spring-fed headwaters of the San Marcos River, the university is home to the Texas State University Galleries, the Performing Arts Center, Live Oak Studios, The Witliff Collections, The Center for the Study of the Southwest, and The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment. Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and coordinate a new, fully online undergraduate degree program in game design, that prepares students to be highly competitive in the Game Design industry.
  • Develop regional, national, and international industry connections to provide students with internship and career opportunities.
  • Identify and recommend hiring of non-tenure line faculty to teach online courses in game design.
  • Teach introductory, intermediate, and advanced online undergraduate courses within the game design program.
  • The Game Design Area Coordinator may work remotely in this position and periodic travel to San Marcos as needed.
Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in a field related to Game Design.
  • 10 or more years of experience in the field of Game Design.
  • Evidence of established networks of connection to industry professionals.
  • Higher education teaching and course development experience.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD degree in a field related to Game Design.
  • Leadership experience in an academic setting.
  • Higher education, online teaching, and program development experience.
