The Opportunity:

The School of Design and Construction (SDC) at Washington State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in structures. We seek candidates who are student-centered, collaborative, possess relevant industry experience, are technologically and professionally competent, and can advance a program of impactful research/scholarship. This is a 100% FTE position with a 40% Research, 40% Teaching 20% Service workload distribution.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach the structures courses series in steel, concrete and wood. In alignment with the school's mission, the successful candidate will be committed to a thorough and meaningful integration of structures in the culture of teaching and research. We see it as more than a box students must check to achieve a basic understanding of structures but a form of pedagogy central to addressing some of the more difficult problems facing the world today. We recognize that the role of structures can no longer be limited to holding buildings up but must play a role in conversations about manufacturing, assembly, and expression. In the Northwest, but elsewhere as well, explorations in mass timber construction alone, for instance, are changing the narrative about design and construction, including those related to codes and sustainability. We seek a candidate who supports our school's goals to be part of that dialogue, indeed at the forefront of innovation in shaping the next set of standards.

The Architecture and Construction Management programs exist within the SDC, which is comprised of academic degree programs in Architecture, Construction Management, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, and a collaborative degree in Construction Engineering with the Department of Civil Engineering. In addition to our commitment to be the premier destination for integrated design and construction education in the nation, the SDC is committed to:
