Location:
Northampton, MA
Open Date:
Sep 4, 2024
Description:

The Department of Psychology at Smith College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Neuropsychology at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin July 1, 2025.  We are open to a broad range of content expertise addressing human neuropsychology (especially affective neuroscience, and/or assessment of neurological or clinical conditions that create neurodivergence such as autism spectrum disorders, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, learning disorders, dementia, or traumatic brain injuries). Expertise in psychopharmacology is also welcome. Successful candidates should be prepared to engage actively with undergraduate liberal arts students who hold a diverse range of demographic identities. Teaching responsibilities for this position will regularly include two courses per semester (sometimes two sections of the same course): a course in the introductory sequence (e.g., Introduction to Psychology, Introduction to Neuropsychology, or Research Methods), an intermediate course in an area of expertise that complements the current offerings (e.g., Neuropsychology Assessment, Brain, Behavior, and Emotion, or Psychopharmacology), an upper-level seminar (e.g., Seminar on Autism Spectrum Disorders) or another topic in the candidate's area of expertise, or Practicum Seminar affording students opportunities to engage with the neuropsychology assessment process with actual patients) plus academic advising and mentoring (e.g., conducting empirical research in the candidate's field of interest and/or illuminating career paths in neuropsychology assessment).  Other courses may be taught depending upon departmental needs in negotiation with the candidate. The successful applicant will maintain an active research program through which Smith students can obtain hands-on experience as researchers including presenting and writing research. The candidate's teaching and/or research should provide students with opportunities to work with neuropsychology assessment tools and/or encounter people seeking neuropsychology assessment services. We are especially interested in candidates whose methods include contemporary data-collection techniques (e.g., non-invasive methods of assessing behavior-brain relationships) and/or advanced statistics and/or mixed method data analysis. A Ph.D. in Psychology from an accredited doctoral program is expected by the time of appointment. The candidate's record should show specialization in neuropsychology or related work with humans. Licensure is not required. Candidates from groups underrepresented in Psychology are encouraged to apply.
