Purpose:
Perform duties to operate self-propelled and pull type steel drum, rubber tire, sheep foot, and similar type rollers to achieve compaction of asphalt whereby densities have been obtained and to provide desired strengths to carry specified load without settlement.
Job Duties:
Check all fluids at the beginning of the engine startup for the day, continue to monitor gauges and fluid levels throughout the day during operation.
Monitor the operation and function of the roller throughout the workday. Maintain an awareness of the unusual noises or operation and bring any exceptions to the attention of the supervisor.
Perform light mechanical adjustments and/or assist mechanic in performing repair on equipment, assist with the lubrication and fueling of the roller.
The ability to perform a variety of task which may include compacting asphalt as well as assist related crew in laying asphalt, dumping trucks, or other such duties in site preparation.
The ability to operate the roller in a manner to assure the safety of personnel around the equipment. Operate the roller on terrain and fill/placed materials as to not cause damage to the equipment or injury to the operator, operate the roller around structures, curb and gutter, tools, and traffic as not to cause damage.
Keep roller in a clean and orderly condition.
Follow all state/federal safety rules and company policies and procedures.
Assist crew with laborious work when not operating roller.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge:
Simple reference to use of machine gauges and operating levers where little interpretation is required.
Salary: Depends on Experience.
