Pay is $322.50 per half hour lesson (1 credit) per student, and $645 per one-hour lesson (2 credits) per student.

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
Kirkwood Community College (Cedar Rapids, IA) seeks a skilled and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Adjunct Instructor of Applied Voice for the Spring 2025 semester. The instructor will coordinate a schedule with students based on mutual availability. The instructor is responsible for fostering student learning through effectively teaching private music lessons in the Kirkwood music curriculum. Teaching responsibilities include offering lessons to students of various skill levels and experience, planning lesson activities, demonstrating appropriate techniques, and evaluating and reporting student performance and progress. The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach effectively in a variety of musical styles (classical, musical theater, and popular music) and show evidence of successful studio teaching at the college level.

Candidates should also demonstrate proven artistry as a vocal performer.

Lead- regardless of title, through positive influence. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach up to 18 applied lessons each week, based on demand.
  • Assist in preparing students for juries and recitals.
  • Coordinate with students to establish a regular meeting schedule for the semester. Maintain current course syllabi and provide it to all students taught.
  • Effectively organize and teach assigned music lessons in accordance with established syllabi. Make recommendations concerning curriculum revision and development.

  • Be able and willing to represent the college in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, clients, suppliers and the community we serve.
  • Be able to organize and present vocal music and music concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities, and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.
  • Manage the lesson studio in a manner that is acceptable and consistent with the department and college objectives, guidelines, policies, and practices.
  • Assume responsibility, deal effectively with problems, and exercise independent judgment when making decisions Welcome, value, and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences.

Position involves sitting and/or standing most of the time in a studio setting. Frequent (34-66%) repetitive motion, stooping, crouching, pushing, puling, carrying and exerting up to 10 pounds. Also frequent (34-66%) reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping. Constant (67-100%) talking, hearing and viewing various types of close work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master of Music or Master of Arts degree in music performance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
  • DMA or PhD in Music Performance or Pedagogy.
  • Ability to demonstrate successful teaching in both classical and popular idioms.
  • Outstanding leadership, organizational and communication skills.
