DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, performs full-performance professional and technical level accounting work in the day-to-day maintenance of accounts and/or financial records in one or more established accounting/financial management systems; assists in developing, revising, and operating an accounting/financial management system; performs related work as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:
•Accounts Payable: Process invoices and contract payments through OnBase and the Enterprise One (NIS) voucher system.
•Expense Reimbursements: Process Employee Expense Reimbursements (ERDs) and travel documents for payment.
•Documentation: Prepare billing documents, invoices, and financial forms; record transactions in accounting systems.
•Record Maintenance: Post data to ledgers, journals, and worksheets to maintain financial records.
•Compliance: Ensure documentation complies with DOR and State policies and procedures.
•Coding: Apply correct coding to ensure accurate financial statements.
•Spreadsheets: Prepare and use spreadsheets for processing and documentation.
•Filing: File documentation electronically or on paper for future reference.
•Evaluation and Reporting: Evaluate documents for policy compliance, initiate payments, and compile financial data for reports and analysis.
•Serve as backup function for preparing or approving daily deposits documents, tax receipts/refunds and daily reconciliation function.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Minimum Requirements: Post high school coursework in accounting, finance, business administration or related field or vocational school OR experience performing accounting, functions including interpreting and analyzing financial data.
Preferences:
Minimum of two years of experience working in a financial setting. Excel experience preferred. Knowledge of governmental accounting, State Taxes, or understanding of ACH rules beneficial.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Knowledge of: the principles and practices of accounting theory and double entry accounting concepts and procedures; generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP); accounting systems; the methods of filing and maintaining accounting records; word processing and spreadsheet computer software programs.
Skill in: listening to and understanding information received; using mathematical methods or formulas to compare and analyze data; developing and applying equations and/or formulas; compiling data from multiple sources into a single, comprehensive document or report.
Ability to: learn and apply the principles and concepts of specific agency programs, regulations and procedures of an accounting system; learn and apply GAAP practices and standards; communicate with agency staff and the public to provide and elicit information; classify accounting transactions, maintain, and reconcile accounts, close accounts and prepare reports and statements; extract data from established accounts and prepare accounting reports and financial statements; review accounting documents for completeness and conformance with specific requirements and to take the appropriate corrective action when necessary; design or modify reports and financial statements; compute and compile financial data involving the use of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and fractions; operate office equipment such as personal computers, scanners, photocopiers and desk calculators.
